The ferry to the island!
8/16/13
I’ve only been in Italy for a day and I’m already leaving for my next adventure. Today, my family and I are taking the Moby ferry to the beautiful island of Sardinia, Italy. This summer will be my 16th summer vacationing in Sardinia but it is still always so exciting for me.
Now let me tell you about the ferry to Sardinia. The ferry ride there is always an experience by itself. You arrive at the ferry and wait in your car on a huge line to finally drive your car onto the boat. Once you get on the boat and park your car, it reminds you of a tiny cruise ship except everyone is Italian and nobody speaks English. There is a tiny pool that they fill up with salt water from the ocean as the boat leaves the port. The only thing about the pool is that it is filled with sweaty Italians who definitely haven’t showered and there are a lot of small children who probably pee in it as well. Its funny now because when I was a younger I thought the pool was the greatest thing on the ship. Now I look at it and think its gross. A lot of people lay out on the top deck, swim in the pool or hangout at the bars/restaurant. Personally, I just enjoy lying out on the top deck overlooking the Medeterrean Sea while reading my book.
7 hours later when we finally arrive in Sardinia, it is a mob scene driving to get off the boat. Just picture 1000 crazy, sweaty, antsy Italians all trying to get off a ferry boat at the same time…it is just absolute chaos and never goes well. In Italy, lines do not exist. Nobody has patience to wait in a single line, so everyone is constantly pushing eachother and moving through people to get off the boat the fastest. Once we are finally in our car and drive off the boat, we have an hour drive up the winding mountains to get to our house in Capo Testa.
