The lifestyle

Today was my first day really taking in the Roman lifestyle. These past few days I have been going to orientation, going on tours and figuring out the city, but today was my first day really on my own. I’m finally getting into a routine and I couldn’t be happier.

I’m starting to realize that my day will always start off with a cappuccino and a cornetto. Cornetto is the italian word for a croissant and they are usually filled with cioccolato (chocolate) or marmellata (marmalade). I prefer the marmellata but both are insanely good. The bar is conveniently right next to my apartment so it only takes 30 seconds to get there.

As far as shopping goes, I realized that I’m going to be food shopping at the open air market every day. The market is open from about 9 am-1pm give or take. The food there is so fresh and so varied and everyday they bring new fresh produce. It is about 2 minutes away from my apartment also, so everything is really convenient and close by. Today I bought 4 peaches, a watermelon, salad and tomatoes for just 5 euros. The prices are so cheap and the food is quality. I also found a local Pasticceria (bread store), which is right down the street from my apartment where I can buy my daily bread that is baked fresh that day.

Around 2pm the stores start to close down because it is time for everyone to take a nap. This is something I love because napping is a crucial part of the day. In order to eat dinner later and go out late, napping is essential. I love it.
