Robbed in Roma…
Yesterday, I had my very first experience being robbed in Italy. Now I officially know why people say that Europe is so dangerous. Certain places and certain people can become very unsafe at any given time. I went to a small club called Mood in Rome. I had my purse on me and it was zippered and somehow the thief managed to unzipper my bag and take my iPhone. I realized this 10 minutes after he did it but at that point it was too late and he was gone.
I spent the entire next day with the police and we went on a chase to retrieve my phone. First of all, I need to comment on how ridiculous Italian police officers are. They smoke cigarettes openly in their office, they wear leather jackets and aviators and they drive through the city of Rome like they owned it. They were literally weaving in and out of cars going probably 130 mph. But anyways, by using the app Find My IPhone we were able to find the exact location of they guy who had my phone, but by the time we got to his apartment it was too late. He had already left. We spent the rest of the day tracking my phone on the app and even went to a cell phone store where it showed he went there. We asked the manager of the store if he saw the man with the phone and he told me that the man tried to sell my phone but he couldn’t because he didn’t know the passcode.
At that moment I realized that I wasn’t going to get my phone back. It took me a while to accept the fact that it was gone and that there are really bad people in the world but it could have ended way worse. It taught me a valuable lesson about being aware of my surroundings and trusting no one.
