PROST to OKTOBERFEST!

PROST to OKTOBERFEST!

PROST!

14 hours later, I made it to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. We got to Germany, I dropped my bags off at the hostel and I instantly went to the store and bought a dirndl. I figured if I was going to Oktoberfest in Germany I might as well look somewhat German.

We walked in the festival and the first thing I see is are thousand carnival rides, huge beer tents and a variety of different food stands. Nobody was kidding when they said that Oktoberfest is like a Disney World for adults. That is 100 % true. With 17 beer tents, carnival rides and German food what more could you want? Friday was the best day I had at Oktoberfest. We went to the loud and famous Hofrau-Festzelt where I had my first couple steins and large German pretzel. The beer was really good except it was warmer than American beer and twice as strong. You had to stay hydrated though because there was no water in the tent. As far as the German people go, they are extremely nice and the complete opposite of how I pictured them to be. Initially I was intimidated by Germans but after a few steins and some pictures I realized Germans are super friendly, outgoing and spirited. They are all very passionate about Oktoberfest and they show such spirit and excitement when they yell PROST!

3 steins later, I went to explore the rides. At that point I didn’t realize how expensive the rides were and I felt like a kid going from ride to ride with not a care in the world. I managed to spent about 30 bucks on rides that day but I didn’t care.

The next day was basically a repeat of Friday except there were 10 times as many people and everyone was louder and more intense. I then continued to order steins, followed by a ½ chicken, a donut and a foot long hot dog. Not my healthiest weekend but it was definitely the most exciting.

On Sunday, I woke up had a a continental breakfast at the hostel and spent my last 4 hours walking around Oktoberfest remembering the steins, the loud carnival rides and the ½ chickens. I didn’t drink on Sunday because my stomach hated me but I had a perfectly good time ending my Oktoberbest experience by wandering around the festival and taking pictures as I went. By 1 pm it was time to get back on the bus and head back to the eternal city of Roma. I had an amazing Oktoberfest experience and I urge everyone to go next year. You can find me and my dirndl there next year too.
