The city that never sleeps: Barcelona

I finally made it to the beautiful city of Barcelona. I’ve always wanted to travel to Spain and Barcelona was the first city on my list of places. Barcelona is truly the city that never sleeps. Aside from the nightclubs on the beach, Barcelona is filled with live music in the streets. From folk music to jazz to electronic concerts, there is always a free concert if you wander the streets and follow the music. There are wonderful churches, buildings, museums and art on almost every corner. I found myself getting lost in the architecture, smells and music the entire weekend.

He was able to be my personal tour guide for the weekend and provide me with a place to stay which really convenient. The first day we roamed around the city and saw beautiful churches and architecture. We also went to an outdoor food festival that was filled with tapas, wine, cheeses, chocolates etc. As far as food goes, I absolutely loved the seafood paella and variety of tapas. Although Spanish food is good, I can definitely say that Italian food dominates.

IMG_8121The second day I went to Park Guell and Sagrada Familia which are both popular touristy spots but they are definitely worth seeing. Park Guell was beautiful and filled with palm trees, interesting architecture and breathtaking views the more you hiked up. Sagrada Familia was such an interesting church but it is still under construction and wont be finished for a while. All the abtract architecture and churches were built by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi, who brought interesting designs to Barcelona.

IMG_8093My last day in Barcelona ended with a beautiful hike up Mount Tibadabo.  Tibadabo is a mountain that overlooks the entire city of Barcelona. It is the tallest mountain in Serra de Collserola and has great views of the city and the coastline. The hike took a little over an hour but it was something I really wanted to do since I haven’t hiked much in Rome. At the top of Tibidabo there is an amusement park and a large catholic church named the Temple de Sagrat Cor. Once I got to the amusement park and saw the church I decided to hike to the top of the church for even more breathtaking views of the city.
